Four printers and a machine on the bench to test against
We started because the panel on our own machine came off in one pull and we thought: that is an invitation. Every panel is printed to order, which is why the catalogue can be this wide without a shelf behind it. Every panel gets checked on a real chassis and goes out in a flat box, with a slot for the panel you are taking off.

A real Steam Machine that sits on the bench and does nothing else. Every panel goes on and off five times. If it needs a fingernail to start, the outline is wrong and the panel becomes a second.

Everything you see here was shot in the workshop, on a phone, between jobs. The product photos in the shop work the same way: if a panel has been printed, we photograph the print itself.
What we measure

Fit
On and off five times on the reference chassis. It should start with a fingertip, not a fingernail.

Flatness
A straight edge across the diagonal. If the panel bows, the corners lift, which is what people call rocking.

Magnet height
All four pads with a depth gauge. One magnet sitting proud holds the whole panel off at a corner.

Airflow
An anemometer at the intake, with and without the panel. Under 6 % loss on every vented design we sell.
Materials
one plastic, one woodMatte PETG
The first layer lands on a Bambu Cool Plate SuperTack, which leaves an even, satin-smooth face. Photographs read cleanly, close to a matte print on paper. If you are not sure, pick this one.

Textured PETG
Printed face-down on a textured PEI plate. The fine, even grain scatters light, so the panel shows almost no reflections and fingerprints disappear into the surface. Slightly rawer look than smooth, same price.

Linden wood on PETG
The face is a layer of linden wood, glued onto the PETG base, so the grain carries through the lighter parts of the image. No two boards have the same grain, so no two panels come out the same. Costs €3 extra; that is what the wood costs us.

We did not start with faceplates
Steam Machine Prints is a brand of Ekinsol, a small company in Belgium, near Bruges, running since 2019. Next to it sits Flowz, the Dutch-language shop out of the same workshop: boxes you design yourself, tiles and its own small products.
The same bench and the same two people. Practically it means your invoice says Ekinsol, and that when something goes wrong with a panel you are not writing to a shop that opened last month.
